The ECF’s Strategic Communications Team is currently accepting applications for the role of Energy Editor, Oil & Gas.

Working as part of an international team of communicators, digital staff, designers, and researchers, you will edit an energy news engine, help with content direction and provide overall strategic and creative direction.

It is imperative that you experience in energy or financial journalism and an interest in climate.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced writer and/or editor with razor-sharp writing skills, who can spin technical copy into exciting reads. You should have an ambition to make a difference and play an active role in helping speed up the low carbon transition internationally.

The role will report to the Strategic Communications Senior Associate, Oil & Gas.

Key responsibilities

  • Tracking industry, political, public and media conversations around decarbonisation initiatives and policies, gas market trends and projects, new technologies in oil and gas, the developing story of hydrogen’s role in energy transition, and strategising ways to influence these debates
  • Writing/compiling content for a monthly newsletter
  • Editing articles from a roster of freelancers with varying levels of writing skills and giving critical feedback
  • Using and implementing a style guide
  • Occasionally writing opinion pieces on energy topics
  • Recruiting new freelancers, commissioning pieces, and ensuring the content calendar is full and well-timed in accordance with rapid response pieces and proactive event-based pieces
  • Staying up-to-date on upcoming events
  • Coming up with ideas for infographics, writing briefs and then commissioning these pieces

Requirements

  • A passion to create change
  • Proven experience in journalism, including some experience in energy or finance journalism
  • Proven knowledge of energy markets, particularly gas, the energy industry, and an interest in climate issues
  • Outstanding fluent English language skills
  • Proven skills to produce engaging and impactful written materials
  • Proven management skills, concerning both people and workload
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills
  • Existing relationships with key energy, finance, or climate correspondents is highly desirable
  • An independent self-starter able to work on their own and as part of a remote team
  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers
