General Summary

Physiopedia is seeking candidates for an Education and Workforce Development Language Translator for the USAID – funded project, Learning, Acting and Building for Rehabilitation in Health Systems (ReLAB-HS). The purpose of this consultancy is to translate education and training materials to develop workforce capacity of rehabilitation professionals and elevate standards of rehabilitation practice in Ukraine. The expected level of effort is approximately 16 hours per week. This is a remote working position; relocation benefits will not be provided.
About ReLAB-HS

Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Learning, Acting and Building for Rehabilitation in Health Systems (ReLAB-HS) is a global project that will support the development of health systems that are responsive to the growing needs for rehabilitation within populations. It seeks to co-design and implement innovative, comprehensive, cost-effective interventions that strengthen health systems for provision of rehabilitation, including assistive technology. ReLAB-HS will focus on integrating rehabilitation and assistive technology services across all levels of care within health systems. The ReLAB-HS consortium comprises six international partners with expertise in health systems, implementation science, and delivery innovations.

The five-year program will work globally and initially concentrate on a number of low- and middle-income countries affected by conflict, with varying levels of rehabilitation needs and infrastructure. ReLAB-HS presents a genuine opportunity to provide real improvements in the quality of life, functionality and independence for many people through simple interventions at the primary care level, and the use of technology to bring rehabilitation further into community settings.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The Language Translator will be responsible for translating education and training content to the highest standard to create high quality learning experiences for rehabilitation professionals worldwide. Specific activities include:

  • Translate English content using a specifically designed online platform into Ukrainian.
  • Support the web development team to provide an online environment for efficient translation of content.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Rehabilitation degree, such as physical therapy or occupational therapy.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a clinical setting conducting rehabilitation services.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English and Ukrainian.
  • Language translation experience and advantage.
  • Fluency in Russian and advantage.
  • Experience working within an international development context an asset.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation/coordination skills.
  • A passion for sharing knowledge in all global contexts, as well as being forward thinking about new language and education related innovations.
  • Comfortable with remote working as a part-time freelancer.
  • Language requirements: Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English Strong proficiency in (or willingness to learn) online collaborative working using tools such as Google Drive, docs and spreadsheets, Slack and Asana.
