Background

The Directory and Information Management System (DIMS) project is part of the Regional Strategy for the Stabilization, Recovery and Resilience for the Lake Chad Basin (RSS). The RSS places great emphasis on the active participation of civil society in the steering of the Strategy. To this end, the Lake Chad Basin Commission and UNDP have launched an innovative project with iMMAP to design an information management system and a directory of and for the Civil Society Organizations operating in the areas affected by the conflict around lake Chad. A digital platform will be an integral part of the project outcomes in 2022.

The project team has developed a broad concept of the platform and is currently consulting civil society organizations and their partners in the region to define the structure and functions of the product so that it responds to the needs of its users. The Information Management team of the project will develop the Platform’s Architecture in the upcoming months.

Description of Duties

The UX Designer is expected to support the DIMS team in developing the Platform’s features and user interaction. Specifically, s/he will:

  • Work closely with the project senior management to design the research phase of the information architecture, including the development of an interview methodology and of questionnaires tailored to different user profiles
  • Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and wireframes
  • Design graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgets
  • Build page navigation buttons and search fields
  • Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how DIMS platform function and look like
  • Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)
  • Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders
  • Create user stories, personas, and storyboards
  • Present and communicate insights to help shape long-term product strategy
  • Adhere to iMMAP style standards on fonts, colors and images

Deliverables

  • A brief methodological paper for the research phase
  • Questionnaires for civil society users and questionnaires for potential technical and financial partners
  • Wireframes of the DIMS Digital Platform

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role
  • A portfolio of web design projects
  • Solid understanding of digital platform development in low-capacity and low-connectivity contexts
  • Up-to-date knowledge of web design technology and trends
  • Team spirit; strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Scrum, an asset Degree in Interactive Design, Web Design, Graphic Design and Communications or a related field
  • Advanced knowledge of French is a plus
