Corduene International Foundation is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting economic self-sufficiency through the power of computing and digital making in the Middle East.
Our organization offers free training courses in computing and programming to children and adults in the Middle East. We do this to enable them to solve problems that matter to them.
Our program gives the most vulnerable people the tools to enhance economic empowerment and self-sufficiency through applying their programming skills.

THE ROLE

Corduene seeks a qualified Finance Manager, who will support Corduene’s growing presence in the Middle Eastern region. The Finance Manager is responsible for the preparation, development and analysis of management accounting information, financial statements and the day-to-day management. The Finance Manager will work closely with the Finance Director to oversee all programmatic aspects, ensure the objectives are met on time and within budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY CREITERIA FOR SUCCESS

The following are illustrative responsibilities that will evolve over time and depend on organizational needs:

  1. Ensure accurate recording and maintenance of finance data, including correct classification of income.
  2. Lead the preparation and development of monthly Management Accounts.
  3. Ensure purchase and sales ledger are maintained in line with the organization’s policy.
  4. Maintain appropriate and comprehensive finance and accounting policies and procedures including payment authorisations.
  5. Ensure Trial Balance is reconciled and reviewed monthly, and complete month end closure.
  6. Prepare and monitor cash flow forecasts for operations activity and investment proposals.
  7. Co-ordinate the annual budget process with the Director of Finance (DoF) and relevant staff across the organization.
  8. Prepare the Annual Financial Statements and manage the External Audit.
  9. Liaise with the DoF on all matters pertaining to Financial and Management Accounting.
  10. Provide clear and accurate financial information and forecasts to the Leadership Team and other departments as required.
  11. Manage Corduene programs, providing direct oversight and management to teams.
  12. Support the teams develop training and events series in the spaces, engage an active community and develop services.
  13. Lead engagement with donors, NGOs, private sector, government and academia to guide spaces activities and identify new opportunities, and engage in external representation as directed.
  14. Support the makerspaces across all support functions such as finance, procurement, and human resources management.
  15. Lead development of business plans for long-term sustainability of Corduene, including developing concept notes and proposals where relevant.
  16. Thoughtfully participate in Corduene’s internal communications including weekly team meetings, program, and other necessary calls.
  17. Provide oversight and support to the external entities linked and supported by Corduene.
  18. First point of contact and ‘go-to’ person in Finance.
  19. Ensure correct allocation of costs, cost recovery and annual program budgets.
  20. All other tasks and responsibilities assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS

The best applicants will combine relevant technical know-how with strategic thinking, a brilliant analytical mind, humility, excellent listening skills, good interpersonal skills, and an ability to get things done. Required competencies include:

• Project management: the ability to effectively manage projects throughout their life cycle including writing project reports, demonstrated by several years of project management.

• Business/Program Development: the ability to plan, secure funding for and establish a program comprising one or more projects or funding streams and development of additional revenue streams.

• Budget management: the ability to prepare, monitor and manage several budgets up to approximately $3M and experience of working with grant management.

• Monitoring and evaluation: the ability to effectively monitor project implementation, evaluate project and program impact, collect and report on monitoring and evaluation data.

• Tech for Good commitment: demonstrable prior interest in the role of tech in social innovation.

• Working with others: the ability to work effectively with others and promote a congenial work environment.

• Self-management: the ability to work independently and take initiative to seek out new opportunities and work in a challenging environment.

Required skills and experience:

• English language: excellent written and interpersonal communication in English.
• Location: ability and willingness to work remotely and from home.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject, Finance, Accounting or Business preferred.
• Qualifications: high proficiency with excel data dumps, data manipulation, pivot tables, vlook-ups and sumifs.

Desirable criteria:

• Humanitarian work: experience with refugees and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities.
• Innovation: prior work with start-ups, SMEs, social enterprise or co-working spaces an advantage.
• Needs assessment: the ability to design and conduct needs assessments to identify needs which may lead to program development opportunities.
• Education: Master’s degree in relevant subject.
• Grant Management: Knowledge of government grants and contracting rules and regulation, particularly USAID and/or UN or previous experience with major funders. Quick learner of funders requirements.
• International work: experience of working in an international context, or in a similar context.
• Qualifications: strong financial analysis capability.
