Global Communities is an international development non-profit organization. Our mission is to create long-lasting, positive and community-led change that improves the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable people across the globe.

In early November, Tropical Storms Eta and Iota made landfall in Honduras and Guatemala. Global Communities (GC) has developed and implemented emergency response projects in both Honduras and Guatemala focused on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Shelter, Agriculture, Livelihoods, and Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) to address the needs of those most affected by the tropical storms. In addition to the Eta and Iota response projects, GC also implements a number of other humanitarian assistance programs in Guatemala. GC is looking for a Humanitarian Assistance LAC Consultant to support the in-country teams. S/he will provide remote support with travel to Honduras and/or Guatemala as needed.

Responsibilities

S/he will provide the in-country team with technical support in WASH and shelter, advise on key implementation strategies, and support new program development. S/he will conduct site visits, support project implementation, build the capacity of key project staff, review or support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and provide other guidance as needed. Specifically, the consultant will:

• Review (and/or help develop) implementation strategies for WASH and shelter activities to ensure adherence to humanitarian standards and donor requirements. Support other sector activities as needed.
• Travel to priority locations to review ongoing activities and ensure that GC is effectively meeting donor requirements and deliverables.
• Review WASH and shelter technical designs and BoQs and any program adjustments or deliverables submitted to the donor.
• Review (and/or help develop) implementation plans, SOPs, and other key programmatic documents as needed.
• Support new program development for LAC, including participating in donor calls and design workshops, review proposals, and draft technical sections and/or donor talking points as needed.
• Work closely with the Country Directors and HQ Program Support Team (PST) on other priorities as needed.
• Serve as acting Program Manager as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, and high level of attention to detail.
• Excellent critical thinking skills, analytic skills, and sound judgment.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills and high level of organization and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
• Fluency in English and Spanish, written and oral.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Qualifications

• At least seven years of experience managing humanitarian programs in emergency response settings.
• Familiarity with shelter and WASH programming, including sector-specific technical standards and best practices in emergency shelter and WASH programming.
• Prior experience implementing programs for USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), now the Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA).
• Prior experience in designing and drafting proposals for BHA and other humanitarian donors
• Prior experience working in the LAC region.
