The Organisation
Equal Measures 2030 (EM2030) is a collaboration of national, regional and global leaders from feminist networks, civil society, international development and the private sector. We connect data and evidence with advocacy and action on gender equality, to transform the lives of women and girls and realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs.)

The Opportunity
We are at an exciting stage in our growth and development and are looking for an Interim Finance & Operations consultant to provide parental leave cover for this critical portfolio of work between January and March 2022. A key priority during this period will be helping EM2030 to prepare its finance and operations functions for transition to a new hosting arrangement, as its current hosting with Plan International Inc is coming to an end in May 2022.

We are looking for a brilliant, diligent, and adaptable Finance & Operations professional to join our small team as a consultant over this interim period. Working closely with our Director, you’ll lead on a wide range of finance and operations systems and procedures, from financial management, financial reporting, grant compliance, contracting and contract amendments, and sub-grant management. Given the transition of EM2030’s hosting arrangement in May 2022, the role will also require strategic finance and operations thinking and implementation to help us plan and execute a smooth transition.

This role would suit a strategic thinker who is excited by a role that requires you to implement and improve organisational systems, work collaboratively and embrace the variety of tasks that come with this role.
You’ll be passionate about girls’ and women’s rights, and about the power of data-driven advocacy in driving real change. You’ll be flexible in your approach and willing to work in a fast-changing environment. You have strong communication skills, and will relish the opportunity to build strong, enduring relationships both inside the organisation and externally. You are a self-starter who values flexible work opportunities, including collaboration with our globally-dispersed, remote team.

  • Oversee the work of a Finance Officer (~20% FTE, based in the US) and Administrative Assistant (60% FTE, based in the UK)
  • Evaluate and improve systems of financial information, accounting, budgeting and other financial functions
  • Design and implement revised financial processes, bridging multiple Plan International finance systems
  • Track and control the organizational budget
  • Produce financial information required by the Director, Partnership Council and other funders: financial statements; financial reports (projects); statistics; etc;
  • Lead on financial forecasting, across multiple offices and multiple grants
  • Develop management accounts
  • Assist Director with grant proposal budgeting, as required
  • Provide clear guidance and leadership to the Secretariat teams on matters to do with budgeting, procurement/compliance, HR, contractual obligations, policies, procedures and risk management and mitigation
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and grant contract terms, across multiple jurisdictions
  • Ensure all partner and supplier partner contracts are well managed

Do you have what it takes?
To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Degree in business administration, finance, accounting or equivalent;
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible management experience in the area of finance and operations;
  • Strong leadership and excellent followership skills, including experience working successfully in matrixed organisations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Experience with grassroots organizations and varying levels and types of financial systems of managemen
  • Ability to operate and manage with remote working arrangements
  • Ability to handle stress, complexity and to adapt to change
  • Excellent judgment, autonomy, and sense of initiative
  • Excellent organisational skills, including project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated commitment to EM2030’s feminist and anti-racist values and principles
