Job Summary:

Leads and directs the development and implementation process for company projects involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing projects. Plans, monitors, directs, and organizes project(s) personnel, activities, schedules and budgets. Is accountable for ensuring adherence to fundamental project management principles throughout the entirety of the project life-cycle; initiation through delivery through close-out. Central to the role is the identification, selection, development, and performance management of project personnel, as well as the strict compliance to budgetary planning, monitoring, and reporting processes and regulations.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for creating, promoting, and maintaining safe and equitable work environments for all FHI 360 personnel, including a harassment- and violence-free work culture, and systems for safeguarding program participants.
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities for designated projects to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
  • Reviews project proposals and plans to determine scheduling, budget, procedures, staffing, and allotment of resources needed for projects.
  • Establishes work plans, project teams, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to meet project goals and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Develops proposals and researches sources for funding projects.
  • Manages the performance and provides development opportunities to managers and staff to achieve project goals.
  • Provides guidance and training to managers and staff to achieve project goals.
  • Participates in the strategic development of methods and techniques with executive management.
  • Establishes, serves and maintains partnerships with internal and external stakeholders on project matters.
  • Provide leadership to the project team, ensuring clarity over plans and priorities, encouraging effective team-work.
  • Responsible for induction of project staff, ensuring their familiarity with mandate values, quality standards, policies and program objectives and their individual responsibilities in upholding these standards and policies.

Education:

Experience:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8+ years of project management experience.

Job Description

FHI 360 seeks a qualified candidate for the Managing Director for the anticipated FP2030’s East and Southern Africa (ESA) Regional Hub. FP2030 is a global community of partners working together to advance the family planning (FP) movement and promote evidence-based policies and programs based on the principles of voluntarism and informed choice (see www.fp2030.org)).

The selected host organization for the ESA Regional Hub will collaborate with FP2030 to serve as a collaborative platform that brings together diverse stakeholders from a wide range of sectors and advances the prioritized needs of commitment-making partners and countries in East and Southern Africa. Availability of position is contingent upon funding and approval by the United Nations Foundation.

Job Summary:

The Managing Director will be responsible for oversight of the ESA Regional Hub and will engage regularly with leaders of other geographic hubs and FP2030’s Executive Director. The position will include leading and directing the development and implementation of workplans and providing oversight for activities, personnel, schedules, budgets, monitoring, and reporting. Central to the role is the ability to support the goals of FP2030 including facilitating country engagement, expanding advocacy and accountability, enhancing leadership of youth and civil society organizations (CSOs), advancing the High Impact Practices (HIPs), and supporting strategic communications and resource mobilization. The candidate must be committed to advancing universal human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals and to empowering local agendas and stakeholders in the region.

The position will be based at FHI 360’s office in Nairobi, Kenya, however applicants from the Africa region are welcome and can be considered as remote employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee launch of ESA Regional Hub including strategic planning and start-up activities.
  • Execute vision and strategy of ESA Regional Hub
  • Forge, leverage and manage critical relationships with governments, partners, donors, and other key stakeholders. Maintain relationships through frequent consultation.
  • Lead the convening of global and country stakeholders for collaborative learning, advocacy and accountability
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and maximize available resources to achieve objectives.
  • Direct and monitor implementation workplans, ensuring that activities are performed to a high professional standard and fulfill donor and FHI 360’s requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor all senior management staff and ensure technical excellence.
  • Ensure effective communication with other regional hubs and FP2030 Executive Director
  • Participate in international meetings and select technical working groups as appropriate to represent the project and ensure collaboration with relevant technical work.
  • Identify existing platforms that can be leveraged for implementation, negotiate appropriate partnership roles to facilitate such collaborations; mobilize resources.

  • Experience living and working in low-resource settings
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English; professional-level fluency in French and/or Portuguese are highly desirable.
