ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews seeks an experienced curriculum development expert with a strong understanding of journalist security to join our Global Technology team as a short-term consultant to update our guide, SaferJourno: Digital Security Resources for Media Trainers. This six-module guide is designed to help trainers integrate digital safety and online security topics into their media training. LOGISTICS

This is a remote-based, short-term consultancy.

All remote candidates will be considered. However, you must have work authorization in your location that does not require sponsorship from Internews. Additionally, there are locations in which Internews is not able to support fully remote work.

This position has an anticipated closing date of 12 February 2022.

SCOPE OF WORK

Curriculum Development:

  • Conduct an in-depth review of the existing SaferJourno curriculum to identify gaps and/or content that requires updating;
  • Identify the needs and opportunities for SaferJourno to meet modern gaps in journalist training curricula by working with community peers and via conducting a desk review of existing digital safety training methodologies targeting the journalist community;
  • Collaborate with the project team and partners to clearly define curriculum objectives and content delivery methods. This may require facilitating engagements with the community to gather input at project launch;
  • Conduct a concurrent review of the LevelUp curriculum to identify areas of overlap or possible opportunities for integration;
  • Update the SaferJourno curriculum, which may include removing or revising current content and adding new content. This includes strategically shaping the updated training curriculum developed to ensure it is scalable and relevant at the global level;
  • Facilitate a community review process of the updated curriculum, including at least two rounds of feedback and revisions;
  • Serve as an advisor during the development of an interactive digital platform and adapt the SaferJourno curriculum as necessary for integration;
  • In all activities, demonstrate understanding of and commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Experience as a digital security trainer, including experience developing training curriculum;
  • Strong understanding of adult-learning approaches;
  • Thematic expertise in digital safety and journalist security;
  • Experience with threat modeling, and selecting/installing digital security-related software and equipment for individuals or organizations;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong understanding of secure communication tools;
  • Professional-level fluency in English;
  • Optimism, a sense of humor, and excitement at supporting and elevating voices of people across the globe.

Preferred

  • 5+ years’ experience as a digital security trainer, including experience developing training curriculum;
  • Experience developing interactive digital platforms;
  • Bachelor’s, master’s degree, or equivalent experience in education, instructional design, or curriculum development.
