**JOB DESCRIPTION:

Social Impact Lead, Emerging Impact Advisory Services

What is Emerging Impact?

Emerging Impact is a public benefit corporation that empowers NGOs, governments, and social enterprises to modernize financial services in emerging markets with blockchain technology. Our company consists of two circles – one for management consulting and the other product development. Originally founded as ‘ConsenSys Social Impact’ in 2017, our company has since re-established itself as Emerging Impact as of May 2020. Our management consulting team typically works with major NGOs to deploy digital humanitarian and development aid programs around the world, with active projects across Latin America, the Caribbean, East & Southern Africa, and the Pacific Islands. Our product development team works on UMOJA, our decentralized finance application that has been built and continues to be adapted for flexible use across aid payment delivery and financially inclusive banking for marginalized groups. We continue to focus on developing microfinance protocols and platforms to deploy with our partners from the tech, social, and banking sectors in each target market.

Responsibilities

The Social Impact Lead will play a critical role bridging work across Emerging Impact’s Advisory Services team, which works hands-on with international agencies and country teams to implement digital cash assistance and digital financial inclusion pilots; and Emerging Impact’s Product Team, who leads the use of Umoja, a blockchain-based payments platform adapted for open banking as well as the digitization and traceability of transactions in cash and voucher programming. As such, both the process of partnering and piloting this blockchain solution with existing humanitarian and development agencies, as well as the use of Umoja for transaction delivery and transparency produces a significant amount of data, which needs to be rapidly visually translated into data insights for internal and external use and evidence of impact.

The Social Impact Lead will be primarily responsible for the following:

  • Designing and establishing a comprehensive Social Impact Measurement Framework, including methods, metrics, and data collection and analysis tools
  • Develop a full Social Impact strategy, toolkit and activity cycle that is analytically robust and evidence-based, but also simple and effective for integration into existing pilots and programs and communication of results to a general and external audience.
  • Ensure that all aspects of EI’s Social Impact measurement and reporting approach captures and prioritizes the nuances between the quality of service delivery and support, including community-inclusive innovation, context-relevant and efficient implementation, digital/financial inclusion and literacy approaches as components specific to program implementation and accelerated delivery, as well as user-specific feedback and facility in using Umoja as a decentralized finance product that is adapted to, and responsive to user experience and needs at the field level.
  • Lead the implementation of social impact monitoring and measurement activities from project inception, monitoring and data collection to full analysis and presentation of results for internal and external use, such as via infographics, live data feeds and in-depth case studies per country and on a cross-country basis
  • Ensure that EI’s Social Impact approach is integrated across all departments, including working closely with the product development and design team to automate and integrate metrics and analytics into Umoja, EI’s product line;
  • Work closely with EI’s Pilot Deployment and Product Support teams to ensure a consistent and responsive feedback cycle between users at field level and product support and development to fully integrate contextual considerations, user-centred design and accountability to communities using EI’s product
  • Establish and maintain a regular reporting cycle to communicate Social Impact results and progress across all engagements for external parties, ideally on a monthly basis, for sharing with partners, investors, clients and advisors (in addition to a public audience)
  • Provide support to EI’s Pilot Deployment Team to integrate all social impact measurement activities and tools into the pilot/project deployment cycle

Key Skills and Competencies

  • At least 5 years of experience in the development and deployment of qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis tools, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, and social performance or social impact measurement processes
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent work experience in statistics, data science, sociology, mathematical sciences, or similar social or human sciences involving analysis and decision-making based on complex datasets
  • Advanced skills in data analytics including the use of digital and mobile data collection platforms and advance data analysis programs such as STATA, SPSS, R, and other advanced data analytics platforms. Self-learned or formal experience in building ML models for data analysis a plus
  • Experience developing informational and visual products to display and simplify data and impact analytics for a general audience, such as through the use of infographics, GIS or other data display products
  • At least 2-3 years of field-level experience conducting surveys, evaluations and other social impact measurement activities in the microfinance, humanitarian or development sector (experience in Latin America, Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa preferred)
  • Strong familiarity (self-learned or formally) with blockchain technology and decentralized finance in particular, with preference for knowledge around the use of blockchain and emerging technologies for social impact and in emerging markets
  • Preference for adjacent data skills such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS), machine learning, data engineering, qualitative and longitudinal data analysis, and financial data and analytics.
